# Typeform AI automation and integrations

> Typeform is easy to automate because it pushes every completed response to a webhook within seconds, signed with an HMAC secret, and n8n, Zapier and Make all have Typeform triggers. The best AI automations score and route leads, summarize open-text answers, draft a personal follow-up and push clean records into the CRM. Plan around the Responses API limit of two requests per second per account and answers that arrive as a typed list rather than flat columns.

- Category: Forms & Scheduling
- Vendor: https://www.typeform.com/
- How to connect: Webhooks; Typeform trigger in n8n; Zapier and Make apps; Responses API; Create API; Native CRM integrations
- Authentication: Personal access token with scopes for scripts and single accounts; OAuth 2.0 for apps that connect many Typeform accounts
- Notes: Use webhooks for new responses instead of polling the Responses API. Set a webhook secret and verify the Typeform-Signature header on every request. Give each question a stable ref so mappings survive edits to question wording.

## What you can automate with Typeform

- **Lead scoring and routing.** Score each response against your ideal customer profile, enrich the company, and assign it to the right rep or sequence in the CRM. Guide: https://www.lumeor.studio/guides/ai-lead-routing/
- **Qualification follow-up.** Read budget, timeline and pain-point answers, then draft a reply that references what the person actually wrote. Guide: https://www.lumeor.studio/guides/ai-lead-qualification-agent/
- **Survey and NPS theme analysis.** Group open-text answers into themes, tag sentiment and post a weekly digest with representative quotes. Guide: https://www.lumeor.studio/guides/ai-customer-feedback-analysis/
- **Responses into a database.** Flatten each response into typed columns in Postgres, Airtable or Google Sheets, with hidden fields kept for attribution. Guide: https://www.lumeor.studio/guides/automate-form-submissions-to-database/
- **Event and webinar registration.** Confirm registrations, add people to the calendar invite and segment them by the answers they gave. Guide: https://www.lumeor.studio/guides/automate-event-registration-workflows/
- **Follow-up sequences by answer.** Start a different nurture sequence depending on product interest or company size captured in the form. Guide: https://www.lumeor.studio/guides/automate-sales-follow-up-sequences/

## What makes Typeform easy or hard to automate

Typeform sends a webhook the moment someone submits, so automations react in seconds rather than on a polling schedule. The payload carries the form definition and the answers together, plus any hidden fields you passed in the form URL, such as UTM source, campaign or a CRM contact ID. That makes attribution and record matching straightforward.

The awkward part is shape. Answers arrive as a list, one object per answered question, and each answer has a type: text, email, choice, choices, number, date, boolean, file URL and so on. Skipped questions are simply missing from the list. Every workflow needs a small mapping step that turns this list into named fields, and that mapping should key on each field's `ref` rather than its title.

Logic jumps add a second wrinkle. Two respondents to the same form can answer different questions, so downstream code must treat most fields as optional.

## The AI layer

Typeform collects structured answers well. What it cannot do is judge them. The AI work sits after submission:

- **Scoring and routing.** A model weighs the combination of answers, such as company size, timeline and a free-text description of the problem, and returns a score, a reason and a suggested owner.
- **Understanding open text.** Long answers to "what are you trying to solve?" get summarized into one line for the CRM and tagged by theme for reporting.
- **Writing back.** A first reply that quotes the respondent's own words gets far more engagement than a template, and a model can draft it in the brand's voice for a rep to approve.

Scores and routing rules stay explicit. The model returns JSON with a fixed set of values, and code decides what happens with each value.

## Limits to plan around

- **Rate limits.** The Create and Responses APIs allow two requests per second per account. Webhooks do not count against this limit, which is another reason to use them.
- **Webhook security.** Set a secret on each webhook and verify the `Typeform-Signature` header, an HMAC SHA-256 of the raw body. Without it, anyone who learns your endpoint can post fake leads.
- **Token scopes.** Personal access tokens only allow the scopes chosen when they were created. A token without `webhooks:write` cannot register webhooks.
- **Data region.** Accounts hosted in Typeform's EU data center use a separate API base URL, and integrations pointed at the default URL return nothing.
- **File uploads.** File answers are URLs that require authentication to download. Fetch and store the file in your own storage if you need it later.

## How Lumeor typically connects it

We start with the n8n Typeform Trigger, a mapping step keyed on field refs, and a validation step that rejects spam and malformed emails. An LLM step scores or summarizes, then n8n writes to the CRM and alerts the owner in Slack. The [lead routing guide](/guides/ai-lead-routing/) and the [form-to-database guide](/guides/automate-form-submissions-to-database/) cover the pattern in detail. For a simple contact form where a cheaper builder is enough, [Tally](/tools/tally/) works with the same approach, and booked calls usually hand off to [Calendly](/tools/calendly/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Does n8n work with Typeform?

Yes. n8n has a Typeform Trigger node that registers the webhook for you and starts a workflow on each completed response. For other operations, such as reading past responses or creating forms, the HTTP Request node can call the Typeform API with the same credential.

### Can AI score leads from a Typeform form?

Yes. A workflow reads the answers, adds enrichment data, and asks a model to score fit against written criteria and explain its score in one sentence. Keep the criteria in a document your sales lead can edit, and send low-confidence scores to a person instead of auto-routing them.

### Why do my Typeform mappings break when someone edits the form?

Mappings built on question titles or positions break when wording or order changes. Map on each field's ref, which you can set in the form editor and which stays the same when the question text changes.

### Do partial responses trigger the webhook?

By default, webhooks fire on completed submissions. If you need data from people who drop off, check Typeform's partial response features on your plan. A webhook can be set to receive partial response events too, or you can fetch partial responses through the Responses API on a schedule, keeping within the rate limit.

### Should we use Typeform's native HubSpot integration or a workflow?

Use the native integration when you only need fields copied into contact properties. Use a workflow in n8n or Zapier when you need scoring, enrichment, deduplication, owner assignment or a personal reply, which the native connector does not do.
